Wish You a Happy Vesak Festival!!!

“A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden”.
– Lord Buddha.
May joy and peace be with you and your family to make this auspicious day of Wesak so precious for your heart.

Batuwangala evillage exceeds 100000 Hits

Batuwangala is a beautiful remote village situated in Galle distinct Hinidumpattuwa. It is 70 kms away from the town Galle. The village has an eminent importance in the aspect of history Legends bear witness to prove the historical importance It is said that king Walagamloa once hid for protection in the ancient village temple He was accompanied by several guards One such guard accidentally slipped down from a rock The rock from which the guard slipped down later became Batuwangala the origin formed in this way “Bata” means guard, “wan”, “ means fell down and “Gala” means rock As the temple was associated by the king it was named as Batuwangala Raja maha Vihara too Elderly villagers are fond of recalling this origin of the village. Batuwangala  Maha Vidyalaya  is in the heart of the village paving the path to village children to kindle the light of wisdom. The concept of evillge has immersed in school community as well as the dwellers.

Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya is the leading ICT institution in Down south Sri Lanka. From the very first beginning we were curious about the challenge we faced coz this is a remote, village school with student population less than 300. Classes conduct from Grade one to Grade 13. When we start a website for the evillage we were behind some five, let’s say 10 schools in the country. From the very first beginning Our ICT teacher Mr.Aruna Chaminda had strict and fast track ICT training to the Batuwangala Maha Vidyala’s students and of course to the village people. We faced lots of hardships. At certain points we were trapped up to neck and what we did certain times was we postpone our internet based activities for while and then starting again. Given bellow is our statistics at the date of 11th May 2011. We have exceeded one Hundred thousand Hits.
This gives us nothing but inspiration to go further as Mr.Aruna Says. We do be proud and of course very very happy coz among known facts we are the fist school in Sri Lanka with known stats to exceed this limit. In this point we would like to thank Secondary Education Modernization Project Known as SEMP for giving us a computer Lab and Training. And we would like to be thankful to Mr.Denuwan Wijewardena for his endless favors he rendered for our school. Mr.Denuwan will add to history of our evillage with no doubt. Then Mr.Chanuka Waththegama must be thank coz he showed us the way to appear in the Internet. Inside Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya, Our Principal, teachers and all the students must be thanked for their support regarding this project.

This took almost the day. Another set of students were washing curtains and other covering clothes using washing machine and fetched new fresh curtains by the end of the day one. The next morning we came back and went to clean our pico hydro power plant. Aruna sir and Grade 12 girls and Grade 11 and 10 Boys were there. They cleaned the upper dam first. It was muddy and garbage blocked water supply was difficult to clean.

However we finished it and came down for cleaning powerhouse. We cleaned the power house and we started the power plant. It was working fine after one month closure and the voltage was just 220v. Everyone was happy and we started our new school year with lots of new experiences. Especially Aruna sir gave lot descriptions on how to clean computers using hand blowers and how to clean power sockets. Disconnecting local area network and reconnecting, Restarting power plant, cleaning inside the power hose, filter cleaning and generator maintaining lots of things were discussed.
